How do I become a member?

After paying the membership fee of 240 SEK (invoice will be sent to your email address) you will receive a student card to your given address and then become a member. The card provides discounts and benefits in all union restaurants and cafes. It is also necessary to prove your membership during exams, pub crawls and student union organized activities.

Why is membership mandatory at Chalmers?

Chalmers is a privately operated university where students hold considerable influence in every aspect of university operations. This influence is backed by a robust student body, which is likely the most powerful in Sweden, along with the Student Union. Membership in the Student Union is compulsory, as mandated by both the university and the Student Union.

What can the union help me with?

If you have any concerns related to your membership, you can use our information desk or membership portal, or if you face difficulties accessing the student union premises, we are here to assist you. Additionally, we provide support if you experience any unfair treatment from the university or your peers. You can contact the Deputy Educational Officer for concerns regarding student rights in education and the Student Welfare Officer for questions regarding mistreatment or discrimination in student activities, or if you are not feeling well and need to talk to someone but don't know where to turn. What does the student union do?

We monitor the quality of your education, give students contact with the industry and provide a safe social life at Chalmers. The student union is run by students for students primarily through voluntary work.

How do I register for exams?

You register for exams using the Ladok system where you login by clicking "Access through your institution" and search for "Chalmers". Your login information is your CID and your own password/the password given to you at registration. Then you can follow the instructions on the website to register for your exams.

Which pubs and restaurants can I find on campus?

Many student division offers the ability to heat your lunchbox. When you get tired of homemade, you can dine in the union lunch restaurants, bars and cafes around both campuses. With the student card you get a discount, and it is always easy to find good and affordable food! List of restaurants on campus.

Where can I buy course literature?

The Student Union’s own bookstore, of course. At STORE on campus Johanneberg and on campus Lindholmen you can find relevant literature, stationery, frozen ready made meals, snacks, candy and ice-cream but also presents and campus wear (only in STORE).

Can the union help me with accommodation?

It is not possible for the Student union to help in these matters as all housing in Sweden normally goes either through the municipality or between individuals (personal ads). Housing in Gothenburg is VERY hard to find if you haven’t applied beforehand.  The Student Union constantly works to affect the housing situation politically but also by making sure new accommodation is being built to meet the rising demands. How do I get to Chalmers?

To campus Johanneberg take bus 16, 58, 158, 753 and trams 6, 7, 8 10 and 13. Bus 19 stops at Chalmers Tvärgata. Bus 16 takes you between both campuses. Campus Lindholmen has both a bus stop and a ferry stop. Search for “Lindholmen” on Västtrafik. Timetables and traffic information on Västtrafik
