A safe campus for everyone
You have the right to feel safe, comfortable, and secure on campus at all hours. At Chalmers, there is zero tolerance for harassment, drugs, and alcohol peer pressure. Still, we know these issues occur in various environments and situations. Addressing these issues is important to foster a healthy culture and we all play a crucial part in making campus better and safer.
Chalmers…
- must be a safe place for everyone
- has zero tolerance for all forms of harassment
- has zero tolerance for drugs
If something happens – what to do immediately
- Speak up if you feel uncomfortable or see someone else being subjected to something. If it didn’t feel okay, then it wasn’t okay—whatever the intent was.
- Talk to a friend if you’re not comfortable speaking up yourself or would rather communicate with the organiser/supervisor or speaker.
- If it’s during an event—talk to the organisers. They are responsible for handling the situation if you, as a guest, feel unsafe.
Organisers can:
-
- Help you get support
- Remove individuals perceived as unsafe and inform them of possible consequences
- Tell you how to escalate the incident within your student division or union
- Contact police or security staff
If something happens – what to do afterwards
Chalmers works towards always being a safe place, both during studies and in the social student life. If something occurs, reporting it helps the union and university to work preventively and to get the support you need. Who you turn to depends on the context of the incident. You can always contact the president of student welfare (SO) in the union management team for help navigating the right channels.
Below are the main contacts depending on where the incident took place:
Program Manager (university level)
If something occurs during study time or affects your work environment as a student, it may be a work environment issue. By law, Chalmers must address such issues. Each program has a Program Manager (PA) responsible for students’ organisational and social study environment. In such cases, you should first approach your PA.
“Safe at Chalmers” (university & union)
If you’ve experienced something unsettling, unacceptable or uncomfortable at Chalmers, you can report it via a digital form—covering both study and leisure-related incidents at Chalmers. You can submit it whether you were directly affected or witnessed it, anonymously or with contact details. A resolution team will assess the report and determine next steps.

SAMO (student division)
Each division has a Safety and Work Environment Representative (SAMO) who represents students in program-related environmental issues. SAMO can help escalate workplace concerns to the PA or other university bodies. Since SAMO is part of the division , they can also forward leisure-related incidents to the student division board.
Student welfare president (SO) in the management team
The SO is the main student safety officer representing all Chalmers students in work environment matters. The SO can help escalate issues linked to union activities and leisure incidents. You can always reach out for guidance on where and how to report.

DOMB is a dedicated support role for doctoral students, employed by the student union and independent from the university. All doctoral students—employed or industrial—can contact DOMB for study- or work-related issues, large or small.
Doktorandombudsman - The Doctoral Student Ombudsman (DOMB) at Chalmers Student Union is hired to provide individual doctoral students with support and advice and to provide support and advice to doctoral students as a group. The DOMB is employed by the student union and is thus independent in relation to Chalmers as a higher educational institution. All doctoral students (both those employed by Chalmers and industrial doctoral students) are welcome to contact the DOMB in case of study or work-related problems, both small and large.

Campus stories – share and read experiences
We have created a form for those who wish to share their experiences—whether you’ve been harassed or were involved in an uncomfortable situation. You can also read others’ stories.
Sharing your story helps those working on safety issues understand what is happening, plan for actions and prevent future incidents.
