What is an Educational committee?
Each student division has an Educational committee responsible for monitoring the education within the programmes connected to that student division. The Educational committee ensures that the education maintains a high quality and that the students’ voices are heard and validated.
An important part of the Educational committee’s work is to convey students’ opinions regarding courses and education. If there are issues related to, for example, pedagogy, examination, or due process in a course, the committee raises these issues with the university. In this way, the Educational committee helps ensure that courses are not shaped solely by examiners and lecturers, but also by students’ opinions and experiences.
In addition to educational influence, the Educational committee also works to promote a good study environment within the student division. This includes ensuring that students feel comfortable with the examiners, lecturers, and teaching assistants responsible for the courses. At the same time, the Educational committee organises study-promoting activities that contribute to a better study environment and increased study motivation for students.
What does the Educational committee do?
The work of an Educational committee may vary between student divisions, but common tasks include:
- Representing students in meetings with programme directors and course examiners
- Collecting and conveying students’ opinions on courses, lecturers, and teaching assistants
- Working to improve pedagogy, examination, and course design
- Organising study-promoting activities, such as “study-fika”
- Promoting a good study environment and increased study motivation within the student division
The Educational committees also maintain regular contact with the Student Union’s Office of Educational affairs to follow up on how programmes are functioning and whether any issues or challenges have arisen.
How do I contact them?
The easiest way may vary between student divisions, but all Educational committees have an email address, which can usually be found on the student division’s website.
